Marin Frist - author and relationship expert - comes to the small town of Elmo, Alaska for a motivational speaking engagement. Unfortunately during her trip, she discovers that her fiance has been cheating on her. Wedding arrangements come to a halt and Marin eventually makes the decision to temporarily move to Elmo so that she can research her next book, which will be about men. The town’s ratio of men to women provides the perfect backdrop.

Of course, her presence in such a small town full of men causes quite the uproar and many people in the town are affected. The locals have their own dramas and lives going on. Key characters in the show include the handsome biologist Jack who has an obvious chemistry with Marin from the start; there is also Buzz, the friendly pilot; Ben, who runs the bar and has relationship troubles of his own; Sara, the town’s “working girl”; Theresa, Ben’s estranged wife; and many others.

Marin starts her new life in Elmo off in quite high spirits (despite the circumstances). She even has a raccoon following her around. However, things quickly go sour when she decides to go home with a guy from the bar, prompting everyone to think she is easy. An ill-timed visit from her ex-fiance throws her into a tailspin.

Marin realizes life is sort of tough in a small Alaskan town, but salvageable if she plays her cards right, buckles down and starts adapting to doing things for herself…
